A market locals actually shop · New York, United States
An indoor municipal market opened in October 1940 on Arthur Avenue, the spine of the Bronx's Little Italy, built to bring the neighbourhood's pushcart vendors in off the street. Around a dozen stalls still trade under the roof: Mike's Deli, Peter's Meat Market, Mount Carmel's gourmet shop, Boiano's, Cafe Nocciola, the Bronx Beer Hall, greengrocers, and a corner where cigars are rolled by hand. Individual vendors keep their own hours, and on Sunday it is effectively shut.
A 1940 pushcart market still run by family stalls — the Bronx's Little Italy under one roof, not a curated food hall.
