The experience
A chain of natural turquoise pools cut into a gorge at ~3,600 m, 3.5 hours by mountain road from Ayacucho — a small community fee applies and the mineral water is protected from swimmers.
A half-day beyond Ayacucho, itself off the international trail — visitors are overwhelmingly Peruvian day-trippers.
