The great Renaissance basilica of Vatican City, built over the traditional burial site of the apostle Peter and completed in 1626. It was designed principally by Bramante, Michelangelo and Carlo Maderno, with Michelangelo's dome crowning the interior and Bernini's baldachin and colonnaded piazza framing the whole. It remains one of the largest churches in the world.
To stand beneath Michelangelo's dome in one of Christianity's most important and monumental churches.
