Established in 1822, the Recoleta Cemetery is a city of the dead laid out in marble avenues of mausoleums in Art Deco, Art Nouveau, Baroque and neo-Gothic styles. Around 4,700 vaults, many declared national monuments, hold Argentina's notable figures - presidents, writers and Eva Peron, whose Duarte family tomb draws a steady stream of visitors.
It is one of the world's most beautiful cemeteries and a walk through Argentine history.
