A green pocket the city kept · Mexico City, Mexico
Photo: Swt Anxiety · CC BY-SA 4.0 · Wikimedia Commons
A large public park in the city's northwest, built in 2010 on the reclaimed site of the old 18 de Marzo oil refinery. It recreates seven Mexican climates and their flora across expansive grounds, with an orchid greenhouse, botanical garden, jogging and cycling tracks, playgrounds and sports courts. Free to enter and rarely touristed.
A former oil refinery turned into a seven-biome garden is a genuinely unusual walk, and it is big and green enough to spend a whole day.
