A stretch of coast worth the drive · El Nido, Philippines

A karst-walled lagoon on Cadlao Island with calm, mostly waist-deep emerald water, reachable by kayak along the island's shoreline from El Nido town when seas allow.
Most bangka tours race to Big and Small Lagoon; Cadlao is the quieter stop, and paddlers who come over on their own often share it with almost no one.
It's only worth the detour Nov–May. Turn up outside that window and you're looking at a different place; we'd rather say so than sell you the photo.
