A view that stops the walk · Chương Mỹ, Vietnam
A tiny temple perched on a rock spur of Tử Trầm Sơn, the low limestone massif about 20 km southwest of central Hanoi that Hanoians call Núi Trầm. It was founded in 1515 by Trần Văn Tăng, a general who took up Buddhist practice, and stands roughly a kilometre from the main Chùa Trầm. You reach it by dozens of worn stone steps cut into the rock, then another hundred to the summit tower. The surrounding hills — Ninh Sơn, Đồng Lư, Tiên Lữ — make it the closest thing to a stone plateau within reach of the city.
A hundred stone steps to a wind tower on a rock pinnacle, with the whole Chương Mỹ plain underneath.
