A forest kept quiet · Bangkok, Thailand
Photo: Thohig · CC0 · Wikimedia Commons
The green heart of Bang Krachao, the jungle-covered river peninsula across the Chao Phraya from central Bangkok that Time once named the city's best urban oasis. More than half the park is left as natural forest, so it functions as a bird sanctuary, with a carp pond, wooden bridges, a lake and a raised bird-viewing tower. Elevated concrete cycle paths thread the surrounding maze of waterways and coconut groves.
The closest thing to real jungle within reach of the city, best explored slowly by rented bicycle.
