A village worth the long drive · Bo Kluea, Thailand
A riverside mountain village in far-eastern Nan where families still winch brine from centuries-old rock-salt wells and boil it over wood fires, beneath the wall of Doi Phu Kha.
Nan province sees almost no foreign visitors; Bo Kluea is another 80 mountain kilometers beyond the provincial capital.
It's only worth the detour Nov–Feb, when Nan's mountains are cool and misty. Turn up outside that window and you're looking at a different place; we'd rather say so than sell you the photo.
