Ipanema is a roughly 2 km stretch of golden sand in Rio's South Zone, framed by the twin Dois Irmaos peaks. Numbered lifeguard posts mark distinct scenes, from the LGBTQ+ hub near Rua Farme de Amoedo to the surf break at Arpoador. The beachfront Avenida Vieira Souto and its Sunday cycling promenade add to the famously relaxed atmosphere.
