A table worth the trip · Hanoi, Vietnam
The corner sticky-rice house at 35 Nguyễn Hữu Huân, open since 1997 and generally credited as the first Hanoi shop to build a whole business on xôi with mix-and-match toppings. Bowls of sticky rice come loaded with braised pork, chicken, pâté, Vietnamese sausage, fried egg, shaved bean curd and a fistful of fried shallots. It sits on the Old Quarter's tour-agency and night-bus strip, so it keeps serving long after most kitchens close.
The shop that turned sticky rice into a proper meal, still doing it on the same corner since 1997.
