Ángel Paz's family farm-turned-cloud-forest refuge, where wild giant antpittas hop out of the ferns to the farmer's call and Andean cock-of-the-rocks explode into a crimson dawn lek. Breakfast afterward is empanadas and bolones off the family stove.
Birders whisper about it worldwide, yet it stays a one-family farm up a bumpy track off the Quito–Mindo road — no signage circus, no crowds beyond a few scopes.
