A view that stops the walk · Moulay Idriss Zerhoun, Morocco

The terrace at the top of Morocco's holiest town looks down over a wave of whitewashed houses spilling across two hills around the green-roofed shrine of Moulay Idriss I.
Most visitors glance at the town from Volubilis 5 km away and never climb its alleys — pilgrims still outnumber tourists.
It's only worth the detour Mar–May & Sep–Nov. Turn up outside that window and you're looking at a different place; we'd rather say so than sell you the photo.
