A bar worth the late walk home · Hanoi, Vietnam
The elder statesman of Hanoi cocktails, opened in 1995 as Polite Pub — the city's first traditional pub — and reopened under its nephew-owner in 2013 as a whisky and cigar bar before turning fully to cocktails. It hides up the narrow Bảo Khánh alley a couple of minutes from Hoàn Kiếm lake, styled on a 1920s–30s gentlemen's club with leather armchairs, amber light and a back bar of more than 500 spirits. Doors open at 5pm daily and run to 1am on Friday and Saturday.
Hanoi's oldest bar, hidden up an alley two minutes from Hoàn Kiếm lake and still the city's best-stocked back bar.
