The Seoul branch of Korea's national contemporary-art museum, opened in 2013 beside Gyeongbokgung on the former Defense Security Command site. Low red-brick buildings wrap around open courtyards and a preserved Joseon-era structure, giving a light, airy layout that stays calm even when busy. The main building is free to enter; only special exhibitions are ticketed, and it opens late on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
A serene, beautifully daylit museum where the architecture and courtyards are as restful as the art, in the heart of the palace district.
