A landmark that earns the queue · Seoul, South Korea

A UNESCO World Heritage palace begun in 1405 and prized for being laid out to follow the natural topography rather than a rigid grid. Its Huwon, or Secret Garden, is a 78-acre rear garden of pavilions, lotus ponds and ancient trees that served as the royal family's private retreat.
The Secret Garden is the most atmospheric royal landscape in Seoul, and the palace itself feels calmer and more organic than Gyeongbokgung.
