The Museu de Arte do Rio, opened in 2013 on Praca Maua, joins a restored eclectic-style palace to a sleek modern pavilion under a fluid concrete roof. Dedicated to art and the visual culture of Rio, it stages temporary exhibitions spanning colonial to contemporary work and houses an art school. Its terrace overlooks the revitalised port district.
