A town worth a whole day · El Triunfo, Mexico

A near-ghost silver town in the Sierra south of La Paz where the 47-metre La Ramona smokestack still towers over brick smelter ruins, a piano museum, and the polished Museo Ruta de Plata.
Once the biggest town in Baja California Sur, it emptied when the mines closed — today most Cabo–La Paz traffic blows straight past on Highway 1.
It's only worth the detour Oct–Apr. Turn up outside that window and you're looking at a different place; we'd rather say so than sell you the photo.
