The experience
A no-frills noodle shop on Eighth Avenue in Sunset Park's Chinatown cooking the food of China's southwest rather than the Cantonese and Fujianese standards on either side of it — banana flower, Yunnan cheeses, rice cakes and, above all, crossing-the-bridge noodles. That dish arrives disassembled: a bowl of scalding chicken broth plus raw sliced beef or lamb, vegetables and rice noodles you cook yourself at the table. Open daily, 9am to 9pm.
