A town worth a whole day · Bandipur, Nepal

An 18th-century Newari trading town on a hilltop ridge between Kathmandu and Pokhara — a vehicle-free bazaar of slate-roofed merchant houses, with short hikes to Annapurna panoramas and one of Nepal's largest caves.
Tour buses barrel past on the highway far below; it never made the Everest–Annapurna–Chitwan package circuit.
It's only worth the detour Oct–Mar. Turn up outside that window and you're looking at a different place; we'd rather say so than sell you the photo.
