Green space the city keeps · Paris, France

A botanical garden at Porte d'Auteuil descended from Louis XV's 1761 royal nurseries, rebuilt 1895–1898 by Jean-Camille Formige with metal-framed glasshouses in blues and turquoise. The palmarium holds tropical species and Japanese carp, aviaries hold exotic birds, and contemporary greenhouses added in 2019 recreate four continental biotopes.
Free tropical warmth and near-total silence on the edge of the city, even in February.
