A cafe worth a slow morning · Marrakech, Morocco
A three-storey café and cultural centre at 224 Derb Chtouka in the Kasbah, founded by Mike Richardson as a place for cultural exchange rather than simply a restaurant. The kitchen does contemporary Moroccan — the camel burger it is famous for, Berber eggs, roast-chicken couscous bouhaloo, vegetable pastilla — and the upper floors and roof carry live music, exhibitions, cooking and baking classes and a weekly storytelling session. It is open daily, 9am to 11pm. Yes, visitors find it; so do a lot of Marrakchi students and musicians.
Part café, part cultural centre — the only place in the Kasbah where dinner comes with Gnaoua musicians and a storyteller.
