The experience

A pine-shaded esplanade in front of the Graça convent, renamed for the poet Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen, who counted it among her favourite spots. It looks across the Mouraria and Baixa rooftops to the castle, the river and the 25 de Abril bridge. An open-air kiosk café under the trees makes it a gathering place for locals at the end of the day; it is free and open 24 hours.
