A 12-hectare artificial lake dug by Alphand during the 1855–1866 transformation of the Bois de Vincennes, the 995-hectare forest on Paris's eastern edge. Two wooded islands sit in the lake, joined by a swinging suspension bridge, with a round Doric Temple of Love above an artificial grotto on the Île de Reuilly and a Swiss chalet nearby. Porte Dorée is the closest metro.
