Metekhi is a Georgian Orthodox church perched on a rocky cliff above the Mtkvari River, facing the Old Town. A church has stood on this royal site since the 5th century; the present cross-dome building dates largely to the 13th century and has served as a fortress, prison and theatre across its history. An equestrian statue of King Vakhtang Gorgasali stands beside it.
A cliff-top church that frames one of the classic views back across Old Tbilisi.
