A table worth the trip · Taipei, Taiwan
A two-floor shophouse on Anxi Street in old Dadaocheng that has been selling the same few things for around eighty years, now run by the third generation of the family. The menu is Taiwanese noodle soup dressed with fried shallot oil, plates of deep-fried red-yeast pork belly, and a tray of braised offal and tofu you point at. There is no signage worth speaking of, no prices printed, and no attempt at decor. It trades from early morning until mid-afternoon only.
An eighty-year-old noodle counter that still shuts by mid-afternoon because it has simply sold out.
