A temple people come back to · Taipei, Taiwan
Dadaocheng's Mazu temple, founded by Tong'an merchants after the 1853 clan feud and built in 1864 facing the Dadaocheng wharf, then moved and rebuilt by 1914 when Japanese street planning cut through its site. It now sits back from Bao'an Street down Lane 49, its forecourt shaded by old banyans and ringed by long-established food stalls. Open daily 7am to 6pm.
The one Taipei temple whose courtyard doubles as the neighbourhood's dining room.
