A table worth the trip · New York, United States
Noel and Geeta Brown's Trinidadian snack counter, which started as a tiny cash-only shop on Nostrand Avenue and moved around the corner into a bigger room on Fulton Street. It sells doubles — two soft fried barras folded around curried chana with sweet and hot sauces — alongside fry bakes filled with shark, cod or herring, aloo pie, saheena, pholourie and rotis. It won a James Beard America's Classics award in 2019. Closed Sundays, and Monday it shuts at 3pm.
The doubles that won a James Beard America's Classics award, still sold over a Fulton Street counter for pocket change.
