A landmark that earns the queue · Mexico City, Mexico

An 18th-century aristocratic palace on pedestrian Calle Madero whose facade is entirely clad in blue-and-white Puebla talavera tiles. It now houses a Sanborns café-restaurant, but the covered courtyard, tiled staircase and painted ceilings are open to anyone. A 1925 mural by José Clemente Orozco crowns the main staircase.
The most photographed tiled facade in the centre, and you can walk straight into its courtyard without paying.
