A still-working main post office opened in 1907, designed by Adamo Boari (architect of Bellas Artes across the street) in an eclectic mix of Art Nouveau, Gothic and Renaissance detail. The interior is famous for its ornate bronze staircases cast in Florence, marble floors and gilded ironwork. A small postal museum upstairs traces Mexican stamp history.
You can step off the street into one of the most opulent interiors in the centre for free and still buy a stamp at the counter.
