One of the largest public squares in the world and the heart of Mexico City's historic centre, laid out over the ceremonial core of Aztec Tenochtitlan. A giant national flag stands at its centre, and the square is flanked by the Metropolitan Cathedral and the National Palace. It has hosted markets, ceremonies, concerts and protests for centuries.
It's the single square from which the whole walkable old city radiates, ringed by the cathedral and the National Palace.
