Somewhere to stop moving · Marrakech, Morocco
A working hammam on Rue Heddada in Bradiya, just outside the medina wall by Bab El Khemis, where the north of the city goes to get clean rather than to be photographed. The standard visit runs about two hours through a eucalyptus steam room, a black-soap and kessa exfoliation and an argan-oil massage, with an attendant guiding each stage. Cloakroom, towels and disposable underwear are handed out at the door, and mint tea and biscuits close the session. It is open every day from 9:00 to 23:00.
The one hammam in Marrakech that is both genuinely local in price and genuinely good at the scrub.
