A village worth the road · Paris, France
Photo: GFreihalter · CC BY-SA 3.0 · Wikimedia Commons
A cooperative founded in 1907 by pastor Sully Lombard to make working families homeowners, built 1911–1928 on a filled gypsum quarry above Porte de Bagnolet. Its 92 one- and two-storey brick houses line curved cobbled lanes under ivy, wisteria and climbing roses — the closest thing Paris has to a genuine village street plan.
Ten minutes from the Periphique you are standing in a flowered country lane that almost nobody in Paris has seen.
