A museum worth a slow afternoon · Taipei, Taiwan
Taipei's water pumping station of 1908, at the foot of Guanyin Mountain beside the Xindian River, built on the recommendations of the sanitary engineer William Burton and fronted by an Ionic colonnade. Declared a third-class historic site in 1993, upgraded to a municipal monument in 2002, and reopened in 2000 as Taiwan's first drinking-water museum. It anchors the Taipei Water Park, a short walk southwest of Gongguan station.
A 1908 pumping station dressed as a concert hall, ten minutes from Gongguan's night market.
