A landmark that earns the queue · Taipei, Taiwan
A 1931 Japanese-Western hybrid house at No. 6, Lane 7, Qingtian Street — hence the name — built for Adachi Hitoshi, a professor at Taihoku Imperial University, and later the home of the geologist Ma Ting-ying. It stands in the densest surviving pocket of Japanese-era faculty housing in Taipei, a quiet grid of wooden homes and walled gardens behind Yongkang Street. The house now runs as a restaurant and tea room with its tatami rooms, verandah and garden intact.
The one professor's house on Qingtian Street you can actually walk inside.
