Commissioned by Suleiman the Magnificent and built between 1550 and 1557 by the imperial architect Mimar Sinan, the Süleymaniye crowns Istanbul's Third Hill. Considered Sinan's great Istanbul work, its vast dome, courtyard and terrace command sweeping views over the Golden Horn. Quieter than the Blue Mosque, it keeps a calm, contemplative atmosphere.
Sinan's serene hilltop masterpiece, with the finest free view over the Golden Horn from its terrace.
