A view that stops the walk · Hanoi, Vietnam
The small lake cut off from West Lake in the 17th century, when a Trịnh lord threw a narrow dyke across one corner to farm fish; the causeway is now Thanh Niên street. The village on its southern shore, Trúc Yên, wove bamboo blinds and sold silk under the name Bamboo Village Silk. Trịnh Giang built a pleasure palace on the bank in the 1730s that was later turned into a prison for disgraced royal concubines. A tree-shaded path runs the whole way round, past Quán Thánh temple, Châu Long pagoda and the small An Trì and Cẩu Nhi shrines.
West Lake's quiet little sister — one shaded lap, three centuries of history, and 347 reviews to West Lake's five thousand.
