This 52-metre monument on the Belem riverfront, shaped like a caravel's prow, was raised in 1960 to mark 500 years since the death of Prince Henry the Navigator. Along its flanks a procession of 33 stone figures from the Age of Discoveries leads the way. A lift climbs to a rooftop viewpoint over the river and the compass-rose plaza below.
