The experience

By the Wine is the Lisbon tasting room and bar of José Maria da Fonseca, one of Portugal's oldest wineries, on Rua das Flores in Chiado. Its vaulted ceiling is covered with more than three thousand empty bottles above communal tables and a long wood counter. Dozens of Portuguese wines are poured by the glass alongside cheeses, presunto and oysters.
