The experience
A 15.5-hectare walled garden behind the Greek Parliament, created in the 1830s for Queen Amalia. Shaded winding paths link some 500 plant species, ancient column fragments, ponds with ducks and turtles, a small zoo and a children's library. A green refuge steps from busy Syntagma Square, it runs south to connect with the Zappeion.
A cool, shaded escape in the dead centre of Athens, free and open every day.
