The experience
The eastern, quieter end of the Four Beasts trail system, about a kilometre of stone steps and stone walkway climbing through dense fern and broadleaf canopy above Xinyi. Viewing platforms open onto Taipei 101 and the whole Xinyi grid, and the route passes several working temple complexes on the way up. Allow 1.5 to 2 hours; it is beginner-friendly but you still need legs for the stairs. The trailheads sit in residential Fude Street rather than at a tourist MRT exit.
