A green pocket the city kept · Hanoi, Vietnam
The biggest park in Hanoi, spread over the old Yên Sở drainage lakes in the south of Hoàng Mai district beside the Gamuda Central development. It is mostly water and open grass — a chain of lakes, reeds and long lawns rather than formal planting — and one of the very few places in the city where people genuinely camp and picnic on the ground at weekends. Admission is free and the toilets inside are clean and free too. Traffic noise from the highway carries into the eastern edges.
Hanoi's one true weekend lawn, where families pitch tents on the grass and no one is selling you anything.
