A cafe worth a slow morning · Hanoi, Vietnam
A first-floor room above the clothing shops at 13 Đinh Tiên Hoàng, run by Mrs Bích, daughter of the man who invented Hanoi egg coffee at Cà Phê Giảng in 1946. Her version uses slightly different proportions: a thick custard-like whipped yolk cap over very dark robusta. The space is small, low-stooled, dim and often smoky, with a tiny balcony hanging over the traffic circling Hoàn Kiếm Lake. Open 7am to around 10pm.
Egg coffee from the inventor's own family, up a staircase most people walk straight past.
