A table worth the trip · Taipei, Taiwan
A busy Taiwanese goose house on Jilin Road near Xingtian Temple, holding a Michelin recommendation for its steamed and charcoal-smoked goose. Birds are broken down and sold by the cut, from the premium leg to leaner and cheaper pieces, and served with a light brown dipping sauce or chili oil. Around it the kitchen sends out goose-oil rice, garlicky greens, Taiwanese sausage and a mala duck-blood curd. Two people can eat well here for under the equivalent of twenty US dollars.
Charcoal-smoked goose sold by the cut in a loud neighbourhood dining room, for the price of a sandwich each.
