A bar worth the late walk home · New York, United States
New York City's oldest beer garden, established 1910 behind the Bohemian Citizens' Benevolent Society hall at 29-19 24th Avenue in Astoria. It survived Prohibition and is still owned by the society, which keeps up the Czech and Slovak beer list, the kielbasa-and-pretzel kitchen and the old hall decor. Long communal tables sit under trees in the yard, with a separate indoor room for when the weather turns.
A 1910 Czech beer garden still run by the benevolent society that built it.
