Ningxia Night Market (寧夏夜市)

The experience

A compact night market on Ningxia Road in Datong, two facing rows of stalls with a narrow walkway between them and a roof over the top. It trades in old-Taipei snacks rather than novelty food — oyster omelette, stinky tofu, grilled corn, salt-and-pepper mushrooms — and at least one vendor carries a Michelin Guide nod. Its small footprint means you can cover the whole thing in one pass, which is why locals use it as a weeknight market rather than an outing. Datong is the oldest part of the city, and the market sits within walking distance of Dadaocheng.
