A wood worth the quiet · Taipei, Taiwan
A 1.8 km near-level path through the caldera valley between Datun Main Peak and Mount Erzi, at around 800 metres where the air runs noticeably colder than the basin. It was Taiwan's first barrier-free outdoor trail: the whole length is wheelchair-passable and shaded by closed canopy the entire way. There are ecological ponds, resting pavilions, a visitor centre, toilets and a small café at the trailhead. Allow 40 minutes each way, or one to two hours if you stop and look at things.
Taipei's coolest, flattest, most shaded forest walk, and the only one built to be wheelchair-passable end to end.
