A trail worth the early start · Taipei, Taiwan
Qixing Mountain is Taiwan's tallest dormant volcano at 1,120 metres and the highest point in Taipei City. The Xiaoyoukeng trailhead sits at roughly 805 metres on the volcano's north-western foot, among fumaroles, sulfur crystals and the raw landslide terrain left by post-volcanic activity. From there it is 1.6 km of stone steps and arrow-bamboo tunnels to the main peak — 45 to 60 minutes up, about 30 down. The full Mount Qixing traverse across the mountain runs closer to 5.7 km and three hours.
Steaming sulfur vents at the trailhead, then the highest summit in Taipei inside an hour.
