A landmark that earns the queue · Lisbon, Portugal

This triumphal arch spans the head of pedestrian Rua Augusta where it meets Praca do Comercio, completed in 1875 to mark the city's rebuilding after the earthquake. Allegorical figures of Glory, Valour and Genius crown the stonework above statues of Portuguese heroes. A lift and a short stair reach a rooftop terrace between the sculptures.
A little-used rooftop that puts you level with the arch's statues, above the Baixa and the river.
