A museum worth the hours · Hanoi, Vietnam
A merchant's tube house at 87 Mã Mây built at the end of the 19th century, narrow at the street but running 157.6 m² deep through a shop, a store, a light-well courtyard, living and worship rooms, a kitchen and a back yard with rainwater jars. It was restored between 1998 and 1999 as a joint project between Hanoi and the city of Toulouse and declared national heritage in 2004. Hosts give short introductions in English. Open daily 8–12 and 1:30–5:30.
The clearest surviving demonstration of how an Old Quarter house actually worked, front to back.
